May 2026. After a beta program, the coating drone is in field service for state DOTs, federal contractors and coating firms.
RoboticsTomorrow reported on 28 May 2026 that Apellix's spray-painting drone is now in field work for state departments of transportation, federal contractors and commercial coating firms. In September 2025 Apellix had opened a limited beta program for advanced contractors.
Paint at height without the lift
The drone is semi-autonomous. It holds the standoff distance and keeps the nozzle perpendicular to the surface, controls speed, and turns the spray on and off itself. Apellix says that cuts overspray and keeps workers off ladders and lifts.
Real coatings
Apellix says the system handles water-based, solvent-based and two-part epoxy coatings, including corrosion inhibitors. Induron has described Apellix applying its protective coatings by drone. Uses include touch-up and repair, graffiti cover and industrial coating.
