SP Group's adapted robot dog, nicknamed SPock, scans for cracks and seepage.
On 4 March 2025 DEEP Robotics said an adapted version of its X30 quadruped was fully operating in Singapore's underground power cable network, the first Chinese quadruped working inside a foreign power system.
The deployment
SP Group calls the robot SPock. It patrols sections of a 40 km transmission tunnel with HD and thermal cameras, looking for cracks, water seepage and other defects, and produces a report after every run. SP Group expects it to save more than 480 hours of manual inspection a year.
The robot
DEEP Robotics launched the X30 on 17 October 2023 for power stations, factories, pipeline corridors and rescue work. It is rated IP67, works from -20°C to 55°C, climbs 45-degree and open-riser stairs, and can operate in complete darkness.
Why it matters
Long utility tunnels are exactly the confined, repetitive inspection work where a legged robot can stand in for people. The Singapore pilot is a real-world test of whether that holds up outside China.
