Gecko launches Cantilever to turn crawler data into decisions

Pittsburgh, 26 October 2023. The software layer behind Gecko's wall-climbing inspection robots gets a name.

Gecko Robotics announced the official launch of Cantilever on 26 October 2023. It is the platform that pulls together data from Gecko's robots, fixed sensors and partner systems.

Robots first, then the model

Gecko's TOKA crawlers climb steel boilers, tanks, vessels and piping on magnetic wheels and take ultrasonic thickness readings. A 2022 Gecko presentation lists the TOKA 4 with up to 128 ultrasonic transducers and a travel speed of 60 feet a minute.

Cantilever combines those readings with historical records, design files and operating data. Gecko says the AI layer works out things like corrosion rate and remaining life, so owners can target repairs and move from reactive to predictive maintenance.

Why it matters for the built world

Manual thickness gridding with a handheld probe covers a small sample of a big asset. Gecko's pitch is full-coverage data and software that turns it into a repair list. Cantilever is the product that sells that second half.
