Factory-integrated 3D boundary control and auto swing come to a 21–24 ton excavator.
On 2 September 2025 Komatsu introduced the PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 excavators in the US. The "i" model adds iMC 3.0, Komatsu's latest intelligent machine control.
What iMC 3.0 adds
Komatsu calls factory-integrated 3D boundary control a construction industry first. Operators set limits for height, depth, front, back and sides, and the machine stops on its own as it nears a restricted zone. Komatsu Europe lists automated steer-to-line, swing-to-line, travel-along-line and auto swing for semi-automatic truck loading.
Bauma debut
Komatsu showed the European-spec PC220LCi-12 at bauma 2025 in Munich in April. It is based on the PC200i-12, launched in Japan in December 2024.
Why it matters
Auto swing for truck loading is a step from operator assist toward autonomous digging.
