AkzoNobel-backed PACO scans the room and paints

AkzoNobel’s UK newsroom posted the PACO preview on 28 November 2022. Les Companions, an AkzoNobel-backed AI and robotics start-up from the Paint the Future competition, showed an AI-driven painting robot aimed at larger housing projects short on painters.

PACO scans a room into 3D, recognises walls versus other elements, navigates obstacles, and paints around windows and doorposts - companion to the craftsperson, not a full replacement. Antoine Rennuit founded the company; Ted Szuman of AkzoNobel framed it as schedule insurance amid skills shortage.

The 2022 piece is a showcase, not a UK fleet census. Later BUILD magazine coverage still pegs Les Companions as a European painting-robotics innovator. FoB files PACO on that partnered product path.
