Tokyo, 2025. The column-welding robot in Shimizu Smart Site now reaches far enough for two robots to weld a whole column.
Shimizu Corporation announced in 2025 that its Robo-Welder now runs on a seven-axis arm mounted on a pivot. Shimizu says the change doubles the working range, so two robots can weld a full steel column, and that it welds 10 to 12 meters an hour, matching a skilled welder's productivity.
The Smart Site lineup
Robo-Welder is one of the Shimizu Smart Site robots. Shimizu first described the system in 2017: Robo-Welder senses the geometry of the weld groove before it welds column joints, and Robo-Buddy is a two-armed robot for ceiling boards and other installation work.
Floors too
In 2021 Shimizu deployed Robo-Buddy Floor, which installs raised-floor pedestals and panels on its own. Shimizu said it matched a craftsperson's accuracy and efficiency.
