World Oil, 16 September 2026: submersible tank inspection without confined-space entry. Side Launcher through the shell manway.
World Oil reported Square Robot’s 2026 NIOSH Prevention through Design Award for the SR-3 submersible inspection robot and Side Launcher. The award recognizes designs that eliminate hazards rather than PPE around them. Presentation was at the National Safety Council congress in Indianapolis on 15 September 2026.
SR-3 inspects aboveground storage tanks while they stay onstream - no shutdown, product removal, or cleaning for the inspection pass. Side Launcher deploys and retrieves through the shell manway of a floating-roof tank so people stay outside the space. Amy Underwood, VP of hardware engineering: the goal was not safer entry; it was no entry.
FM Approvals: SR-3 for Class I Division 2, Side Launcher for Class I Division 1. API 653-path inspection is the product job on the company platform page. Read the source: https://www.worldoil.com/news/2026/9/16/square-robot-tank-inspection-technology-wins-niosh-safety-award/
