The Chennai startup put its NIRMAAN RD11 printer in a college research lab.
On 25 June 2024 Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions opened what it called Kerala's first concrete 3D printing research lab, built with Saintgits College of Engineering in Kottayam.
The printer
The lab runs Tvasta's in-house NIRMAAN RD11 printer, which can print up to one cubic metre. Students, researchers and industry partners will use it to test printing methods and new concrete mixes.
Who Tvasta is
Tvasta was founded in 2016 by IIT Madras alumni and built India's first 3D-printed house in 2021. It says it has completed more than 5,000 sq ft of printed construction across India, including the AMAZE-28 demonstration house in Thiruvananthapuram.
Why it matters
Construction printing needs engineers who understand both the machines and the materials. Putting a working printer in a university gives India a pipeline of people trained on domestic equipment rather than imported systems.
