Massa Lombarda, Italy. WASP's Crane WASP and Mario Cucinella Architects printed a two-dome house from local earth.
TECLA is a 60-square-meter house of two connected domes in Massa Lombarda, Italy. Mario Cucinella Architects designed it and WASP printed it with its modular Crane WASP system.
Mud, rice husks and two arms
The walls are locally sourced earth with rice husk in the mix. Two synchronized printer arms worked at once. 3D Printing Industry reported about 200 hours of printing, 350 layers of 12 millimeters and 150 kilometers of extrusion.
The machine
WASP sells Crane WASP as a modular construction printer for concrete, clay, lime and other mortars. Each module covers a printing area of about 50 square meters, and modules can be linked to print larger structures. TECLA is the best-known proof of the earthen side of that pitch.
