Damen Dunkirk buys five GreenDock blast-and-paint robots

Damen published the contract on 5 September 2024 after the SMM signing the day before. Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque ordered five Autonomous Mobile Blast & Paint Robots from AMBPR, a SERCEL Group company. Years of collaboration and final trials at the yard preceded the buy.

Damen’s write-up: full hull cycles of washing, grit or hydro blasting, painting, and final inspections, with tool changes under twenty minutes. Hybrid power at first, upgrade path to full electric. Operators stay clear of high-pressure work; overspray and residues stay contained so nearby trades can keep moving.

The yard cited about 90 percent of process water collected, cleaned, and reused. Managing director Jeroen Heesters called that recycling a competitive edge with owners watching their own footprints.
