MESH robots knot cages for the second Gotthard tunnel

ETH Zurich: Birr spin-off. ~10,000 prefabricated reinforcement cages on the major award.

ETH Zurich’s Andres Herzog profiled MESH on 3 June 2025. Founders Ammar Mirjan and Mattis Koh run about 800 square meters in the old BBC halls in Birr. Software drives arms that grip, bend, place, and weld rebar - free-form work and conventional prefabrication.

Beyond Tor Alva and Biennale showpieces, MESH rents robots to Swiss reinforcement manufacturers. A major award: robotic knotting of reinforcing bars for prefabricated elements on the second Gotthard road tunnel - on the order of 10,000 cages of mass production.

Labor shortage on physically brutal rebar work is the business case Mirjan states. The ETH piece is the public customer-adjacent file: Swiss shops first, Gotthard volume on the schedule.
